Air Control
The air control is made in 21 control places that are equipped with air pumps for gaze pollutions and 80 control places for determination the dust sediments.

For determination of the dust sediments in slow flux - with slow accumulation frequency, were utilized for controlling process 66 control places.

For determination of the sediments with weekly accumulation frequency were utilized for controlling process 11 control places.

The level of atmosphere polluting in 1995 -2001 shows a decreasing of the NO2, SO2 concentration comparative to 1995. At the 14 control places for NO2 and 14 control places SO2 from Hunedoara County, the concentrations established are in admitted limits according to STAS 1257/87.

The level of atmosphere polluting in 1995 -2001 shows a decreasing of the NH3 concentration comparative to 1995.

For phenols, the concentrations values between 1995 - 2001 in both control centers from Hunedoara County had small variations for an year to another, but without growing over the limits imposed by STAS 1257/87 being recorded a considerable decreasing in 2000, being at 0,00192 mg/m3 for a 24h.

The pollution with dust suspensions and sediments.
After the determinations that were done for dust suspensions and sediments in the 17 and 74 control centers from Hunedoara County, the polluting level decrease considerable in the last years because of the professional equipment and installations used for the dust. As a result, in Petrosani the medium concentrations for dust suspensions and sediments decreased in the period 1995-2001 till at 7.10 g/m2 comaprative with the period before 1994 when this concentration were more over the limits imposed by STAS 12574/87.

Environmental challenges:
· The absence of an integrated system for the gathering, recycling and depositing of trash.
· The pollution of the town with the ashes from the S.E. Paroseni thermo-electric power station
· The weak maintenance of West Jiu major riverbed by RAFC (Romanian Administration of Waters - Craiova Branch)
· Acceleration in giving to the agricultural circuit the storehouses of ashes and the waste dumps from Vulcan Mining Exploitation (E.M. Vulcan), Paroseni Mining Exploitation (E.M. Paroseni), Preparatia Coroesti.
