Short History of Mining in Petrosani

The coal discovered in Perosani in 1840. In 1840 Hoffman brothers from Rusca Banatului and the boyar/nobleman Maderspach Carol, the heritager of some lands in Valea Jiului, begin to exploit the coal deposits from around Petrosani. "The society of mines and avons" here the results of Hoffman brother and began to exploit in the South-West.
The stat was instigated by the made discoveries and encourage the miner from Zlatna (K.K.Berghauptmannschaft) to do research in the Jiu Valley area. This order is executed in 1857, when they establish 16 fix points where the futures exploitations to begin. The state reserves the rights to exploit the hills from Petria (noth - west).
The Society from Brasov has till 1865, a number of 77 coal lands, being financed by the consortium "Wiener Bankverein" from Viena. The state also having 71 of such coal lands. But neither one of them do not begin to exploit because of the lack of the rail trains, in this case the exploitation being not profitable.
In 1865 Freund engineer elaborated a plan for the rail train and they start the work according to he's plan. The new Route Simeria la Petrosani is official opened in 28 august 1870, and the coals exploitations begins in the same time with the work to the rail train. The Society from Brasov begins in 1867-1868, and the stat in 24 decembrie 1868.
In 1894, Brasov Society begins the process to sell his mines. They were bought by the Society from Salgo-Torjan, which in 1896 take for 12 years the stat mines. In 1908, returns this in the stat administration.
In 1908 in Petrosani were 5.418 miners which produced like 9.637.400 m3 of coal.
